Lift Jesus Up!

Jimmy was a preacher who traveled to India often from the 1970s to 1990s. He loved to share his true stories of God's power and grace. On one trip, he set up a tent for a week-long revival, but by the third night, no one had responded to his message. He did not know that a woman and her son, who had been born with severe disabilities, were on their way to the revival. This mother had walked carrying her son the whole time. As Jimmy was preaching on the third night, he saw the woman enter the tent with her son in her arms. The boy's body was twisted and rolled into a ball from his condition. Jimmy finished his sermon and invited people to come for prayer. The woman brought her son forward, and Jimmy learned through a translator that she had heard about the healings that sometimes happened in Jimmy's meetings, and she had faith that God could heal her son. Jimmy asked her, through the translator, if she would testify to everyone that Jesus had healed her son if he received his healing. She agreed and Jimmy prayed a simple prayer, asking Jesus to heal the boy. The tent was silent as they all heard the sound of the boy's bones popping and crackling. In a few seconds, the boy stood up, completely healed. The woman turned and, with tears in her eyes, told the crowd that the Jesus Jimmy preached about had healed her son. The tent was then filled with people who wanted to accept Jesus as their savior, all because Jimmy and the woman gave all the glory to Jesus.

He Chose Me!

I encountered who I know as Holy Spirit for the first time at the age of 9. On Sunday mornings, a bus would take my siblings and me to church. My Sunday School teacher had mentioned that we were getting to an age where Jesus would begin to "knock on our hearts," though I didn't give much thought to it then. One morning, I woke up with an unusual but positive sensation inside. This feeling intensified on the way to and inside the church. When I entered my Sunday School class, I felt certain that the sensation was Jesus reaching out to me. I shared this with my teacher, who guided me through a prayer to welcome Jesus as my savior. As we prayed, I felt a strong sense of Holy Spirit's presence, and I was deeply moved by the fact that Jesus had sought me out. He chose me to be part of His family, and I am fortunate to have accepted the call.

Young and Naive!

As a teenager with youthful energy and limited experience, I sometimes made poor decisions. One such instance occurred shortly after getting my first car. I took a drive one chilly night with four friends. Two in the back seat chose to smoke marijuana and I didn't stop them. With the windows up due to the cold, smoke filled the car. At some point, without feeling affected by the drug, I suddenly passed out while driving. When I regained consciousness, I was shocked to see the car crashing through a fence and then into a field before returning to the road. Unsure if what I was seeing was real, I confirmed it with my friend sitting next to me. Miraculously, no one was injured. At that moment and even now, I credit the hand of God for our safe return to the road. Reflecting on similar stories that ended tragically, I often think about my experience and gratefully acknowledge "but for the grace of God, there go I."
